A Spring Equinox Tarot Spread

Updated: Mar 18

What is Ready to Grow?

Mark your calendar for March 20, 2026 for the first official day of Spring.

Compared to solstices, the Spring Equinox arrives quietly, but its message is unmistakable. The light has returned. (Hooray!)

Astronomically, an equinox occurs when the Sun aligns with the Earth’s axis in such a way that day and night are nearly equal across the planet. For a brief time, the world pauses in balance. Darkness and light share the sky in equal measure. From this point forward, the rhythm shifts. After the spring equinox, the days grow a little longer. Each morning carries more warmth as the arc of the year begins its climb toward summer.

In the natural world, this is the moment when stillness gives way to movement. The soil softens and birds grow louder. What has been resting begins to stir again, and we start putting the garden planning into motion. The quiet introspection of winter transitions into the lively energy of the waking earth.

The equinox invites us to notice that shift in ourselves, too.

Winter tends to draw our attention inward. It is a season of reflection, evaluation, and oftentimes for me, necessary retreat. But the Spring Equinox is asking us a different question - “Are you ready to begin again?”

What an Equinox can Teach Us

Balance is the first lesson of the equinox. Equal day and equal night remind us that growth requires both light and shadow. The equinox encourages us to pause and examine where we currently stand between rest and action, contemplation and movement.

From there, the work becomes simple but meaningful. Notice what is ready to grow.

Tarot can be particularly useful during seasonal turning points like this. Instead of chasing immediate answers, tarot works beautifully as a reflective tool that helps us track patterns and timing. The equinox offers a natural checkpoint -  remember that March Worm Moon? What has been forming quietly beneath the surface? What ideas, desires, or opportunities are beginning to press upward like seedlings - or earthworms - through soil?

This season is less about dramatic change and more about cultivation.

Farmers understand something modern life often forgets - you can't rush a harvest. Growth happens through attention, patience, and care for the conditions that allow something to thrive. The same principle applies to our creative work, relationships, personal development, and ambitions. Spring is a wake-up call that rest time is over, and it’s time to get cracking!

The spring equinox tarot spread below is designed to mirror the natural process of growth that defines the spring season. Each card corresponds with a stage of cultivation, guiding reflection on where your energy wants to move next.

Spring Equinox Tarot Spread: Planting the Season

Where in my life is fertile ground waiting for attention?

Every garden begins with soil. This card reveals where potential already exists. It may point to a project, relationship, idea, or quality that is ready for deeper investment.

  1. SEED

What new seeds can I plant there?

Seeds represent little nuggets of intention. They are small beginnings that hold the blueprint for something larger. This card explores what you are being called to initiate or experiment with in the months ahead.

  1. WATER

What will nurture and support this growth?

Growth never happens in isolation. This card highlights the resources, habits, people, or environments that can sustain the seeds you plant.

  1. SUN

Where should I direct my energy and attention?

The Sun is both illumination and energy. Plants lean toward light - humans do too. This card points to where conscious focus accelerates growth.

  1. GARDENER

What role must I actively play in cultivating this season? How can I make use of these longer days?

This card is about your participation. What actions, discipline, or courage are required to help this vision grow?

  1. HARVEST

What future reward or lesson might grow from what I plant now?

This card offers a glimpse of the wisdom, transformation, or opportunity that may emerge from your current efforts.

The Spring Equinox reminds us that life moves in cycles whether we acknowledge them or not. Aligning with those cycles begins with curiosity, attention, and the willingness to plant something small and tend it well.

The question is not whether growth is possible. The question is - what are you ready to grow with balanced energy and intention?
